How good is the Sony STR-DH100?
For the audio savvy who want a good amplifier that can fit into the budget, the Sony STR-DH100 2-Channel Audio Receiver may be what you just need. It aims to deliver quality music without the need for complex home theater setups with solid 21 amp channels that delivers sound in 100 watts per channel. The unit comes with five audio inputs, two audio outputs and DMP interface that let users connect CD players, vinyl turntables, Bluetooth adapters, iPod docks and PC ready devices. The Sony STR-DH100 also comes with an integrated AM/FM tuner with direct and automatic tuning that lets users choose from countless radio stations. The unit comes with an easy to use remote control, which directs most of its functions.
Usually selected as a secondary receiver for audio files, the Sony STR-DH100 does its job with acceptable sound production, flexible controls, adjustable equalizer settings and multiple audio inputs. But compared to other, more sophisticated models in the same price range, this receiver does nothing special enough to make it memorable. There were no sound enhancers, lack of phono input to full advantage of turntable compatibility, a slow and insensitive tuner antennae and the unit seemed bigger and heavier compared to other receivers. Some users even pointed out that the sound can have a screeching quality at high volumes and that the unit falls apart easily.
To conclude, if you’re looking for a stellar sound performance that can match high end receivers, the Sony STR-DH100 may not meet your expectations. But as it is, this receiver can still deliver smooth sounds and adequate station transmissions for the budget conscious, everyday music listener.
