Sherwood RX-4105 2-Channel 100-Watt Stereo Receiver Review

Good Sherwood Stereo Receiver, but still somewhat lacking

Amplifying sound to the best possible level at an affordable price is what Sherwood RX-4105 2-Channel 100-Watt Stereo Receiver aims to achieve.  It focuses more on integrated preamplification and amplification and improved radio station access. The unit makes use of discrete amplifiers with distortion levels lowered to less than 0.08 percent, and it has two clip-type speaker outputs to power two separate rooms or better amplify two speakers.  Features also include are bass and treble tone controls, inputs for other audio consoles like stereos and CD players, a simple, 25 key remote control and easy to read fluorescent display.

The stereo receiver has been praised for being able to deliver clear sounds and being able to receive transmissions even in places that has supposedly little radio signals.  But of course no unit is without drawbacks.  While sound output is good overall, bass and treble control could use some improvement and the noise reduction level, while acceptable, is still not great.  The unit is also heavier compared to other receivers, and many users have also complained of the receiver overheating quickly because of the lack of an effective heat sink.

Overall, the RX-4105 is a decent audio amplifier that can deliver sound with minimal noise at high volumes.  But with other receivers having more features, better sound production and connectivity options available at the market for a few more hundred dollars, Sherwood will have to do better.  Still, if you’re looking for a stereo receiver that can act as your audio control center and your decent radio station tuner, this unit can do the job all right.
