Looking into Onkyo’s newest audio powerhouse receiver
The Onkyo TX-NR808 7.2-Channel Network Home Theater Receiver Review is the company’s newest answer to the competitive mid range receiver franchise, adding features and improving sound and video processing capabilities to prove that it can be the best among the best. But does the unit make the cut?
Producing high quality sound is always one of Onkyo receiver’s features. The TX-NR808 does this using new Dolby and Audyssey surround sound technologies that utilizes wide front speakers to give a more realistic soundstage with most speakers. High quality sounds delivered with no clipping and in even, consistent volume, you would think you actually own one of those higher end speakers!
But while sound production of the TX-NR808 was highly praised, other features could use more work. The newest Onkyo receiver claimed to be 3-D ready with the use Faroujda Dcdi Cinema to upscale HMDI videos to 1080p. But comparing it with older models, there was minimal or even no improvement, according to some users. Another common problem with the unit is its network connectivity and its dreaded “Now Initializing” screen. It seems to haunt several users who can never get past the said screen, even after a firmware update. While the latest update does get the fixing job done eventually, it would be nice if Onkyo had zeroed in on the problem the first update around.
While the unit does have its problems, from networking and firmware issues to difficulties with input connections, there is no doubt that the TX-NR808 is one high end quality receiver. With crisp, detailed sounds from the whispered dialogues to the explosive action scenes, it is definitely one of the best in the sound production department.
